BRITISH ROWING FITTING & WORKSHOP
In January 2026 we visited British Rowing in Caversham, Reading to meet the women’s team and coaches to provide them with fittings and a workshop. We took the full Fit Kit down, ranging from Shock Absorber to Panache, ensuring athletes had access to a wide selection of performance and everyday sports bras.
We were able to speak to Lizzie Jacobs, Sport Scientist for the women's team, she gave us an insight to how correct support impacts their body's. She said 'The education this morning was really great for the athletes to hear first hand. Some of the impacts it can have both on their performance and potentially reducing injury risk. And now we're hearing how sports bras are improving your physiological efficiency and your posture, of course posture is a very important part in rowing.'
Why the Right Sports Bra Matters in Rowing.
A supportive and correctly fitting sports bra is essential in rowing due to the repetitive, high-force nature of the stroke. While rowing is a seated sport, the drive phase generates significant upper-body power, causing multidirectional breast movement that can lead to discomfort, distraction and pain if not properly supported.
Over time, inadequate support can affect posture, technique and overall comfort, impacting both performance and wellbeing. A well-fitted sports bra helps minimise unnecessary movement, supports breast health, and allows athletes to train and compete with confidence at high volumes.
