Test Run | Cake Zest Maternity Sports Bra
'As a new mum looking to get back into running and other sports, it became apparent very quickly that my body, which had been changing for the past year or so through pregnancy, birth and then being the main source of nutrition for my new little human, would need some new attire to support its new look.
It's easy trying to find leggings, tops and trainers, but a key piece of kit for any female runner, a good supportive sports bra, becomes increasingly harder to find if you are nursing. This is where this sports bra comes into its own.
After buying the same brand of sports bra for over a decade, I needed to branch away from them to support my continually changing body. The ‘Cake’ didn’t disappoint. It is by far the most comfortable bra that I own. I have on days found excuses to wear it just for the comfort and the support it gives.
Not only that, myself and my child loves the fact that the front unclips to make nursing completely accessible anywhere. Does the unclip feature hinder the support that the bra offers? Absolutely not! The fit of the bra isn’t the tightest and if anything, the cup sizes are generous so worth trying the size you’re measured at and the cup size below just to make sure you get the best fit, but a nursing mother needs to have a slight looseness to accommodate changing breast size around infant feeds. The underwire is almost unnoticeable unless the front is unclipped for nursing, the shoulder strap is large and the back strap is broad with several fastenings available which is a god send to a larger lady like myself. The material the bra is made from is stretchable, very soft to the touch and absorbs sweat well. The design and colour are subtle and would not look out of place under a wide range of garments.
So let’s talk about the most important thing now, the ‘bounce’ factor. Or should I say the restriction of bounce. For the slower paced jogger or those who are doing lower impact activity this is a great bra.
For those looking for something to almost restrict all bounce, possibly not as much. There is some bounce remaining in the bra, not an uncomfortable amount, but a slightly noticeable amount. For those who are less self-conscious and aware that their body is now different and requiring a different style of support due to pregnancy or nursing this would most likely not be an issue.
The pricing. Well, this bra does start creeping into the higher end of the line of bras, but you must weigh up why you are looking to purchase this bra. If it’s for the support, then there would be the possibility of disappointment. To accommodate a changing body through pregnancy or to support a nursing infant, who let’s face it will want milk anywhere at any time, for the practical factor this bra for me is worth every penny.' - Kerry
